Mick Jagger has arrived on the island of Stromboli, near Sicily, to film Italian director Alice Rohrwacher’s adaptation of “Three Incestuous Sisters.”
Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger was postponed by a day, but arrived via helicopter this week on the island of Stromboli, off the coast of Sicily. There, he will star in Italian director Alice Rohrwacher’s adaptation of U.S. author Audrey Niffenegger’s novel, “Three Incestuous Sisters,” alongside fellow cast members Dakota Johnson, Josh O’Connor, Saoirse Ronan, Jessie Buckley, and Isabella Rossellini.
Jagger will be staying in a villa on the island where Isabella Rossellini’s father, Roberto Rossellini, famously began his affair with her mother, Ingrid Bergman, while filming Stromboli in 1949.
“He will be treated like all guests, because the island offers the same welcoming treatment to everyone, trying to make tourists feel at home,” says an island local.
“Three Incestuous Sisters” will be the first English-language film by Rohrwacher. The story is based on Niffenegger’s gothic novel about three sisters living in isolation, whose lives are disrupted by the arrival of a lighthouse keeper’s son. Jagger will reportedly be playing the lighthouse keeper whose son is being played by Josh O’Connor.
“Three Incestuous Sisters” is being financed and produced by Indian Paintbrush. Johnson and Ro Donnelly are producing for Johnson’s TeaTime Pictures, alongside Steven Rales for Indian Paintbrush. Rohrwacher is also producing; the Italian line producer is Fandango. Principal photography for the film started in April, with ten weeks of shooting planned in Stromboli and Rome.
Notably, the 82-year-old Jagger often visits Sicily and purchased a villa in Portopalo di Capo Passero in 2021. He is expected to stay in Stromboli only a few days before the scenes involving him will conclude.
Earlier this month, the Rolling Stones announced the release of a new studio album, Foreign Tongues, due to be released on July 10 from Capitol Records. The 14-track album comes less than three years since the band’s Hackney Diamonds, which was their first release of entirely new material in 15 years.
