The member representing Ndokwa West Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu, has urged women, particularly young women, to take active roles in politics and contribute to community development.
Emetulu made the call during the inauguration of the Girlchild Ambassadors, an All Progressives Congress (APC) support group, in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
He described the initiative as a demonstration of commitment to women’s political participation, girl-child education and empowerment.
Emetulu said greater participation of women in leadership would contribute to the development of society.
The convener of the group and Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Festus Ochonogor, said the initiative was established to train and empower young women for leadership and political participation.
Ochonogor urged the women to take advantage of government programmes targeted at women and the girl-child.
Other speakers, including Hon. Marilyn Daramola, Chief Obi Nzete and Chief Dan Ossai, urged the women to remain committed to their political aspirations and support for the APC.
The President of the Girlchild Ambassadors, Comrade Vivian Omede, commended Ochonogor for promoting women’s participation in politics and pledged the group’s continued support for the party.
