University of Florida student arrested for sexually battering woman in dorm room, officers say
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Authorities arrested a University of Florida student accused of sexually battering a woman in his dorm room.
According to the arrest report for Andrew Shaffer, 19, he brought a woman to his dorm room at Honors Village, UF on-campus student housing, on Sept. 24.
The victim told University of Florida Police on Sunday that Shaffer had encouraged her to consume a large amount of alcohol before going back to his dorm that night.
Once there, Shaffer asked the woman if she wanted to have sex, and she replied, “No.”

Shaffer is accused of raping the victim while she was sleeping. She awoke confused and wearing Shaffer’s t-shirt. Her shirt had been pulled down to her waist.
Shaffer asked her if she was going to get Plan B, a brand of emergency contraceptive, and told her they’d had sex, which the victim couldn’t remember.
Later, while messaging with the victim on Snapchat, Shaffer acknowledged that she said “no” and that what happened between them “wasn’t right.” He also confirmed he wasn’t wearing a condom at the time.

The victim provided the messages to investigators, as well as the receipt of a payment from Shaffer for the Plan B.
During an interview with detectives, Shaffer admitted to having sex with the victim; however, he said it was consensual. He also confirmed the Snapchat messages were from him.
He was booked into the Alachua County Jail on the charge of sexual battery on Monday. No bond was set as of this report.
UF officials confirm Shaffer has been trespassed from campus for three years.
