Idaho AG bans travel business owner from operating in the state, citing consumer protection violations

Attorney General Raúl Labrador permanently banned Keith Craig Fletcher from offering travel-related goods and services due to a history of consumer complaints.

BOISE, Idaho — Arenal Outdoor Center owner Keith Craig Fletcher received a permanent ban forbidding him from offering travel-related goods and services in the Gem State, the Idaho Attorney General’s Office announced Monday.

The ban is part of a judgement in a consumer protection lawsuit levied against Fletcher. According to a news release from Raúl Labrador, Fletcher has a “long history of customer and employee complaints” alleging unrefunded vacation packages, bounced checks, lack of insurance and improper conduct in regards to payroll taxes.

“Idaho has amazing opportunities for outdoor recreation and it’s shameful that an unscrupulous and greedy operator would ruin that great experience for so many people,” Labrador said.

The AG said Fletcher would close one business then reopen one under a different name. Multiple government agencies received complaints about Fletcher’s practices, which violate the Idaho Consumer Protection Act, according to Monday’s announcement.

The Idaho Attorney General’s Office suggests the following tips in order to avoid becoming a victim of travel-based scams:

  1. Check independent reviews and speak to former clients of a business
  2. Confirm a business’s legitimacy beyond its marketing and website traffic
  3. Use business registries and licensing authorities to confirm a business’s status
