CINCINNATI (WXIX) -A mass shooting at a music venue on the east side left one person in critical condition and eight others injured Sunday.
The shooting occurred during the DJ Fresh Birthday Celebration at Riverfront Live.
The owner of the venue released the following statement:
We are devastated by the violence that occurred in the early hours of March 1st at Riverfront Live. Our hearts are with the victims and their families. We are profoundly grateful that, at this time, all of the victims are reportedly in a safe and stable condition.
We want to take this moment to thank the staff, the first responders, and the community that supported us last night as they have the last eight years. The immediate reaction from CPD helped to prevent further causalities, To those brave men and women- THANK YOU. To the community that we are proud to be a part of, Thank You.
Following the incident, the event organizers and DJ Fresh himself released a statement addressing the situation.
The shooting happened shortly before 1 a.m. at 4343 Kellogg Ave., the location of Riverfront Live.
Eight people were taken to UC Medical Center, according to UC spokesperson Heather Chura Smith.
Smith says one person is in critical condition, five are stable, and two people were treated and released from the hospital.
One person was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and has since been released, according to a hospital spokesperson.
A man, who asked to remain anonymous, said he witnessed a person on the floor involved in an altercation with four to five people before that person was “knocked unconscious.”
The witness said 10 to 15 minutes after that incident, he saw “three dudes came from the back and shot the club up and ran out the way they came in.”
Police have not confirmed whether the shooting is connected to that altercation or to the party at Riverfront Live.
Riverfront Live owner Tim Jordan confirmed Sunday that a scheduled School of Rock fundraiser show will go on as planned later in the afternoon. Jordan said he left the decision to the organizers because it is a fundraiser.
