Many documents on this site are provided as PDF (Portable Document Format) files. Adobe Reader may be required to read these – this is free software which can be downloaded from Adobe’s website.

In most cases, the file size is shown immediately after the link to give an indication of how long the document will take to download.

Current versions of Adobe Reader have a built-in text to speech function which enables PDF documents to be read aloud. Visit the Adobe website for more details.

We are working to reduce the number of PDFs on our website and to ensure that those which remain are accessible.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Angus Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

It follows the accessibility guidelines issued by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

The site has been assessed by Shaw Trust Accessibility Services by people who have a wide range of disabilities and has achieved Shaw Trust Accessibility accreditation.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reason(s):

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The Committee meetings calendar page has missing ARIA references and an incorrect heading structure. This fails WCAG success criteria 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions) and 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). We are looking at replacing this calendar. An alternative page is available which lists forthcoming council meetings in an accessible format.

Two pages have titles in Ukrainian. Due to limitations in the content management system it is not possible to add language attributes to these titles. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.1.2 (Language of Parts).

A small number of pages have missing table summaries or HTML errors. We are continuing to monitor and fix these. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).

The pager control (see image below) has an h4 heading encoded in its structure. This may result in an incorrect heading hierarchy on a small number of pages, such as the News page. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). We are unable to change this. User testing performed by the Shaw Trust has indicated that this is not a major accessibility problem.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

We will endeavour to ensure that any new PDFs or other documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 26 June 2017. It was last reviewed on 1 June 2023 and will be reviewed every six months.
