BOSTON – The Northeastern men’s basketball team heads back on the road for three games in three days at the Florida Gulf Coast MTE in Fort Myers, Fla., beginning on Friday afternoon against FIU (1 p.m.). The Huskies will then take on tournament host FGCU on Saturday at 1 p.m. before CSU Bakersfield on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Please note: live stats will be available for all three games this weekend, but only Saturday’s game against Florida Gulf Coast will be streamed on ESPN+.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1. SERIES HISTORY VS. THIS WEEKEND’S OPPONENTS
The Huskies are playing their first game in the state of Florida since the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero in 2019. Northeastern and FIU are meeting for the third time in series history, and first time since 1995. The series is tied, 1-1.
Northeastern will be taking on FGCU and CSU Bakersfield for the first time in program history.
2. OUT OF THE GATES
The Huskies are off to their best start to the young season since 2015-16. Under head coach Bill Coen, Northeastern has started 3-1 or better six times.
Additionally, the Huskies are 10th in the nation in field goal percentage (54.8%) and have eclipsed the 75-point plateau in each of their first four games, the first time that’s happened since 2003-04. It’s also the first time since the 2002-03 season that Northeastern has shot better than 50% in each of its first four games.
3. ROOKIE PLAYING LIKE A VET
November 13 was a coming out party for freshman guard Ryan Williams, who went for 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting (5-of-7 from three) off the bench in a 78-56 win over Harvard. It was the most points scored by a Northeastern freshman since Jahmyl Telfort dropped 30 against Drexel on March 8, 2021. For his efforts, Williams was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Williams is averaging 8.0 points and 14.5 minutes per game and shooting 56.5% from the field this season.
