Health officials warn of measles exposure at 3 South Carolina locations

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – The South Carolina Department of Health has reported three instances of public exposure to measles in Greenville and Spartanburg after an infected individual visited several locations in late December.

The details of these locations are as follows:

• Nose Dive restaurant at 116 S. Main Street, Greenville, S.C., on Dec. 24 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm
• Best Buy at 1125 Woodruff Road, Suite 1201, Greenville, S.C, on Dec. 24 from 3 to 6 p.m.
• The Spartanburg Library at 151 S. Church Street, Spartanburg, S.C., for the Solar Superstorms planetarium show on Dec. 27 from 3:15 to 6:30 p.m.

The department said the individual was unaware of their infection during these visits and does not believe there is ongoing risk for measles exposure at these locations beyond the specified times.

Health officials said the typical incubation period for measles is around seven days. People who were present at any of these sites and are not immune may start to show early symptoms of measles now.

The department urges anyone who visited these locations during the mentioned days and times to contact their healthcare provider if they suspect they may have been exposed or if they start to exhibit symptoms.

Those who were exposed, particularly individuals without immunity from vaccination or prior infection, should monitor for symptoms until Jan. 17.

Symptoms generally appear within 7-12 days but can take up to 21 days after exposure, beginning with a cough, runny nose, and red eyes, accompanied by a mild to moderate fever.

South Carolina health officials have recently reported nine additional cases of measles, with one of these cases being reported at the start of 2026.
