The brother of hip-hop artist Too Short was shot in killed in east Oakland on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
Police identified the man as 61-year-old Wayne Shaw, the older brother of Too Short, whose real name is Todd Anthony Shaw. The rapper headlined the San Joaquin County Fair in June 2024. Following the performance, downtown’s Coach’s Lounge hosted an after-party for Too Short and Mary Jane Girls.
He was shot and killed around 7 a.m. in the 1200 block of 49th Avenue near E. 12th St. during an attempted heist at a reported marijuana grow house, according to the Mercury News.
The killing occurred after multiple suspects tried to ram a car into an industrial building on 49th Avenue near East 12th Street, according to NBC Bay Area.
That’s when a person walked outside and was shot multiple times by the assailants, according to news reports.
He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died, according to reports. Investigators do not know if he was targeted or if the robbery was random.
The suspects got away in an unknown vehicle, according to news reports, and investigators are looking into the building that was targeted and Wayne’s connection to the property.

On Too Short’s Instagram page on Thursday, numerous hip-hop stars left comments on the posts.
Under the post titled Real Tears, which was posted earlier on Wednesday:

“Sending my deepest condolences, loved one Wishing you strength & comfort, R.I.P. Wayne,” wrote E-40.
“My condolences to you, Short, and the family. Wayne was a good brother and will be deeply missed,” wrote Rappin’ 4-Tay under the name the realrappin4tay.
“God bless you king. I love you and pray for your peace at this time. I’m here if you need me,” said Suga-T under the name suga_t_.
