LSU Tiger Girls’ viral hip-hop routine has them in UDA finals again

After a second day of competition at the UDA College & Dance Team National Championships in Orlando, the LSU Tiger Girls once again qualified for the hip-hop finals. They won the event in 2024.

The Tiger Girls will compete to repeat as hip-hop national champions on Sunday, going on at 8:20 p.m. ET. They finished with the fifth-highest score in the semi-finals.

The team, known for its unique, electric choreography and music choice, this time chose Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” for its hip-hop routine. The elaborate act includes umbrellas as props and has gone viral online.

Last year’s Tiger Girls hip-hop routine, set to Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” earned first place in the nation at the UDA Nationals and generated millions of views across social platforms. LSU won the event in 2022, as well. The team returned to this year’s UDA competition not just as one of the favorites but as a national sensation.

The Tiger Girls also competed Saturday in the jazz semi-finals but narrowly failed to advance, finishing in 12th place — just a few decimal points out of a spot in the finals. LSU had earned third place in the jazz event in 2024.

LSU’s cheer team likewise participated in the cheer semi-finals on Saturday, finishing in 15th place and failing to qualify. On Friday, the cheer team had finished fifth in the finals of the game day cheer event.
