PISCATAWAY, NJ — Maia Adamson played hero on Friday, sinking an overtime goal to give the No. 11 Terps (9-6, 5-3 Big Ten) a huge 1-0 win over No. 17 Rutgers (8-8, 3-4 Big Ten) on the road. Her first goal of the season couldn’t have come at a better time for Maryland as the Terps earned their first overtime win and fifth ranked victory of 2025.

A quick first quarter only featured a trio of shots, none of them being on target. A goalkeeper didn’t have to make a save until the 25th minute of play, and the two squads took a 0-0 score into the half.
The third quarter was a carbon copy of the previous two, presenting three shots but no true scoring chances. The action picked up in the final seconds of the final quarter as the Terps drew a pair of penalty corners, but Rutgers held strong, sending the match to overtime.
Alyssa Klebasko faced six shots in her 16th-career shutout and stood tall in goal as the Terps earned a huge road win over a conference foe.
It wasn’t until the 67th minute that Adamson broke through with the match’s first goal to give the Terps the only goal they’d need to snag the 1-0 win. Annemijn Klijnhout picked up an assist as Maryland walked off with its ninth win of the season.

1st Quarter:
- Rutgers drew the day’s first penalty corner in the 11th minute.
- The Scarlet Knights recorded a pair of shots in the 11th minute, but both were blocked by the Terrapin defense.
- Jordyn Hollamon posted the Terps’ first shot of the day in the 15th minute.
2nd Quarter:
- Maryland fought off a green card from the 20th to 21st minutes.
- A shot from Fleur Knopert hit the post in the 25th minute.
- Maci Bradford’s first shot of the match came in the 25th minute and prompted the match’s first save.
- A Feliz Kuhne shot went just wide in the 27th minute.
- Maryland outshot the Scarlet Knights 3-0 in the second quarter.
3rd Quarter:
- The Terps drew their first penalty corner in the 36th minute.
- Ericka Morris-Adams made a sliding block on a Rutgers shot in the 43rd minute.
- Maryland outshot Rutgers 2-1 in the third quarter.
4th Quarter:
- The Terps blocked a Rutgers shot in the 57th minute.
- A Scarlet Knights shot went wide in the 58th minute.
- Maryland was awarded a pair of corners in the final seconds, but Rutgers made some timely saves to send the match to overtime.
Overtime
- A Rutgers shot went wide in the 66th minute.
- Adamson scored (1) from Klijnhout (3) to win the match.
