Manic Monday- Typo Negative’s Gothic Doom Take On Love With “Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity”

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, it’s officially that special time of the year filled with flowers, heart-shaped everything, and a generally simplistic/romanticized celebration of “love” everywhere you go. But as most folks eventually find out one way or another, love can be a complicated, fleeting thing, often ending in disappointment, heartbreak, and sorrow (Happy Monday, everybody!) Just ask the late great Peter Steele of Type O Negative fame, who kicked-off the band’s very first song from their very first album (Slow Deep and Hard) with a merry 12+ minute dirge clinically titled “Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity”.

Perhaps better known as “I Know You’re Fucking Someone Else,” it’s probably safe to say it’s not the most emotionally mature or tasteful song in the world, but for those of us with a particularly dark/fucked-up sense of humor, it’s hilariously entertaining. Not to mention kind of brilliant, at least structurally, as it effectively bridges the gap between Steele’s prior crossover-thrash band Carnivore, with the more atmospheric/melodic flavorings that would come to characterize Type O Negative’s signature goth-rock sound. Whatever the case, if you’re looking to kickoff Valentine’s Day week on an absurdly bitter/contrarian note, look no further:
