
AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team closed their Florida trip with a 6-2 loss to Assumption University Sunday, March 9 at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Fla.
The Golden Eagles sit at 6-8 (3-1 NSIC). Sunday’s game was also their last non-conference tilt of the 2025 season, as they will now play exclusively conference tilts. Assumption improved to 1-10 with Sunday’s victory. Sunday was the first time the two teams have met.
Kyle Odenbach (Jr., LHP, Thompson, N.D.) started and fell to 0-2. He allowed four runs on three hits. Odenbach struck out four, and walked four. Caden Edwards (R-Sr., LHP, Duluth, Minn.) pitched a scoreless 2.2 innings, with five strikeouts and just one walk. Kayden Camacho (Jr., RHP, Glyndon, Minn.) allowed two runs, on two hits. Kaylor Chamberlain (Fr., RHP, Mankato, Minn.) put up a zero in one inning, with no hits.
The win for Assumption went to Alexander Meesig, who allowed one run in three innings of relief. Ryan Cloutier picked up the save, allowing no runs in two frames.
The Golden Eagles were guided by the consistent bat of Dylan Debilzen (Fr., OF, Parkers Prairie, Minn.), who has been a highlight of the first 14 games. Debilzen went 2-of-4. He is batting .429 in 49 at-bats. Aaron Wensloff (So., IF/OF, Roseau, Minn.) swung 1-of-4, with an RBI, and a run scored. Kobe Senn (Sr., IF, Fargo, N.D.) was 1-of-4, with a run scored. Connor Bushbaum (R-Jr., OF, Saginaw, Minn.) finished 1-of-3.
The Greyhounds looked to Jamison Howland, who was 2-of-4, with an RBI, and a run scored.
Assumption broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third. Max Lefrancois crossed the plate on a wild pitch. A Chris Klein single brought in Owen Podolec to push the lead to 2-0. Howland put the ball in right field, to score Sal Grinstead.
Minnesota Crookston got a run back in the top of the fourth when Senn scored when Caden Kappes (So., IF, Wahpeton, N.D.) grounded out.
The Golden Eagles pushed their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth with a Podolec triple, plating James McDermott.
Minnesota Crookston cut the deficit to 4-2 in the top of the sixth with a solo shot from Aaron Wensloff.
The Greyhounds added a pair of security runs in the bottom of the eighth when Howland scored on a Lefrancois sacrifice fly, followed by a Podolec sacrifice fly to bring in Lorenzo Lombardo.
Minnesota Crookston goes back to NSIC play with a neutral-site series in Saint George, Kan., March 14-16 versus the University of Sioux Falls.
