NDSU Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision Against South Dakota

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision against South Dakota on Tuesday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

Baily Randall led the way for the Bison (11-7, 5-3 Summit) with a team-high 14 kills to go along with a .385 hitting percentage and nine digs. Maddy Dombeck narrowly missed a double-double with a team-best 24 assists and nine digs, while Sadie Johnson totaled a career-best 12 digs.

NDSU got off to a fast start building a 10-6 advantage with a kill from Ally Barth in the first set. South Dakota (13-7, 5-3 Summit) responded with a late 8-3 run to steal the lead, 19-18, after an attack error. The Bison, who posted a match-best .350 hitting percentage in the frame, answered with a 6-2 run of their own to steal the lead, 24-21. NDSU went on to hold off South Dakota the rest of the way, 25-22.

The Coyotes pushed back in the second frame sprinting out to a 17-9 advantage after a service ace from Kamryn Farris. South Dakota used a .524 hitting percentage to close out the set, 25-14. The Coyotes carried the momentum into the third frame using a 5-1 run to build a 16-12 lead at the midway point. NDSU fought its way back trimming the deficit to 20-19 with a kill from Randall. However, South Dakota closed the set on a 5-1 run to pick up the 25-20 win.

The Coyotes started to put the match away after opening up a 10-3 lead in the fourth set with an ace from Lauren Medeck. South Dakota then used four straight points to extend its lead to 18-10 after an attack error. The Coyotes went on to win the frame, 25-18, and the match, 3-1.

NDSU will be back in action hosting Kansas City on Saturday. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
