Six Gators Ranked Inside D1Baseball’s Top-150 College Prospects

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – D1Baseball has released its annual list of the top-150 college prospects for the 2025 MLB Draft, headlined by six Gators in Colby Shelton, Jake Clemente, Pierce Coppola, Blake Cyr, Cade Kurland and Brody Donay.

As Florida’s highest-ranked prospect, Shelton led the way at No. 63 overall. Clemente slotted in at No. 79 as UF’s top-projected pitcher, followed by Coppola (No. 101), Cyr (No. 113), Kurland (No. 125) and Donay (No. 150).

Florida is one of eight programs in the country with at least six players on D1Baseball’s list.

Gators in the Top 150
SS Colby Shelton – No. 63
RHP Jake Clemente – No. 79
LHP Pierce Coppola – No. 101
UTIL Blake Cyr – No. 113
2B Cade Kurland – No. 125
UTIL Brody Donay – No. 150

Expected to hit in the heart of the Gators order, Shelton batted .254/.374/.551 with 20 homers, 14 doubles and 56 RBI in his debut season in Gainesville. Making a successful transition into one of the SEC’s premier defensive shortstops, the Lexington, S.C. native boasts 45 career homers to go along with a .275 batting average and .630 slugging percentage.

Figuring to bey a key member of the UF rotation, Clemente is fresh off an All-Star summer in the Cape Cod League in which he logged 27 innings with a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9. That came on the heels of a redshirt freshman campaign where the righty posted a 5.34 ERA, .234 batting average against and 39 strikeouts in 28 2/3 frames.

As the program veteran of the group, Coppola shook the injury bug last season to provide 23 2/3 innings of work from April 13 onward. The southpaw slotted right into the Gators rotation and made good on his long-held top prospect status, fanning 35 batters against 12 walks in eight starts. He earned his first collegiate victory via five strong innings vs. Kentucky in an elimination game at the 2024 College World Series.

Entering year one as a Gator, Cyr played in 85 games for Miami from 2023-24 and batted .298/.418/.593 with 24 homers, 15 doubles and 84 RBI. He burst onto the scene with Freshman All-American honors in 2023, delivering a .305/.427/.620 batting line highlighted by 17 long balls. Although he missed time due to injury last year, Cyr made a successful defensive transition to left field and managed to produce a strong .933 OPS and seven big flies in just 25 games.

As an everyday starter at the keystone for Florida’s back-to-back College World Series teams, Kurland quickly became a fan favorite after earning First Team All-SEC honors as a freshman by hitting .297/.404/.555 with 17 homers in 67 starts. Although his offensive production took a step back as a sophomore, he gutted through injuries to finish with a gaudy .804 OPS across 62 games. He is again projected to bat in the middle of the Gators lineup with a bounce-back campaign on the horizon.

Rounding out the group, Donay swung himself into an everyday role last year in his first season with the Orange & Blue. Seeing action in 49 games, Donay made 14 starts at catcher and 30 at designated hitter, slashing .246/.323/.527 with 14 homers and 32 RBI. That came after one lone year at Virginia Tech, where he hit .260/.352/.858 with 12 long balls and a .937 OPS.

Florida opens the 2025 season at home on Friday, Feb. 14 against Air Force, hosting the Falcons for a three-game series (Feb. 14-16) for the first time in program history. Season tickets and SEC Five-Pack Mini-Plans are currently on sale now.
