‘TOTAL scam’: Ron DeSantis calls H-1B visa program ‘terrible policy’

‘A lot of these Republicans say, ‘You can have a million people plow in. As long as it’s legal, that’s good.’ Is that really good?’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has described the nation’s H-1B visa program as “a scam,” highlighting the practice of U.S. companies firing American workers to hire cheaper foreign employees.

At an event to discuss his state’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, DeSantis blasted the visa program as “terrible policy.”

Said DeSantis: “A lot of these Republicans say, ‘You can have a million people plow in. As long as it’s legal, that’s good.’ Is that really good? A lot of these tech companies are laying off American workers and then importing H-1B visas. I think that’s a TOTAL scam.”

As WND has reported, an untold number of Americans have lost their jobs, especially in the tech industry, thanks to the visa programs that allow companies to import workers who then replace Americans.

When the federal government authorizes millions of foreign nationals to enter the workforce each year, it floods the job market and stacks the deck against American citizens.

President Trump’s Homeland Security Department recently filed a notice of a possible change in H-1B requirements with the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

Part II

According to the WND News Center,

“Americans are losing: Millions of foreigners are given work permits but jobs aren’t keeping up

18 million foreign nationals were cleared to work in 3 years, but only 9.7 million jobs were created…”

Be that as it may, if those numbers are even close to being accurate, that helps explain part of the downward pressure for native born Americans of whatever ethnic or other backgrounds. Letting in millions of people that were generally unvetted hurts those on the lower rungs of the U.S. economic ladder the most. Like it or not, that’s just how economics 101 works in the real world.

Sometimes we should flash back to where we were as a nation a little over a year ago. Note that FactCheck.org is deemed generally favorable to Democrats (leans left). Note that even this left-leaning source, per their data below, said real weekly earnings was down 2.5 percent. Immigration wasn’t the only reason, but the math tells us it is a factor.

That means millions of Americans pay hasn’t kept up with Biden-Harris-Democratic fueled inflation.

That’s a left-leaning media outlet (MSNBC) with a high ranking Democratic lawmaker (then House Majority Whip James Clyburn (SC-D) saying that Democrats knew that they were going to cause inflation with their spending bill.

This writer is a political independent. It was just days ago that yours truly slammed both major parties for the arguably misleading and problematic bill called the “ROAD to Housing Act 2025” that if properly understood could make the housing crisis worse. As that report outlined, there are apparent scandals and woes aplenty in the backdrop of that bill. See what the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI), and the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform had to say – and why.

That report is just scratching the surface. For far more information, see what the AARP had to say about aspects of the pending legislation in the deeper dive linked below.

Why are so many (not all) housing focused nonprofit groups praising or promoting this bill that arguably will do little or nothing to fix the housing crisis, and may make a proven fix for the housing crisis potentially harder?

https://www.manufacturedhomepr…

Do I think that the two major parties are the same? No.

Do I agree broadly agree with an observation made by Dan Bongino about Democrats and Republicans. Pretty much.

There are early indicators that Trump 2.0 is off to a good start. The president hasn’t ended the war between Russia and Ukraine, but he is trying and he has brought peace to other nations. Inflation appears to be falling. Gas prices are often lower. Eggs are cheaper than under Biden-Harris. Longtime readers of this column may recall that yours truly supported Trump 3 times in the last 3 general elections for president. Given the same choice, I’d do it again. I hope and pray he and others in government will successfully work for ‘Making America Great Again.’

But there is an open question what, if anything President Donald J. Trump will do to fix the housing crisis. The fix is common sense. But will Trump 2.0 do it?

Drew Mariani on Relevant Radio recently said something recently that summed it up nicely. ‘I don’t follow the donkey. I don’t follow the elephant. I follow the Lamb.’ Bingo. We believers should be pragmatic about politics. We should seek honest, ethical, legal, and just outcomes.

There is always more that could be said. We hope this “Reality Check” series for this Patch and in our deeper dive reports on MHProNews and MHLivingNews bring you both practical and useful insights. Thanks for checking in.
