Ube-inspired makeup? This US beauty brand made it happen

Huda Beauty, a makeup brand founded by United States-based makeup artist Huda Kattan, unveiled a new cosmetic line inspired by ube (purple yam), a staple root crop in the Philippines.

Every year, on her birthday, Huda celebrates her special day with a ube cake. That tradition inspired her to create a limited-edition makeup line inspired by the beloved Filipino sweet treat, which translates to a lilac to purple shade in a makeup product.

Huda Beauty’s ube collection consists of Baking & Setting powder in Ube Birthday Cake (P2,600), Blush filter in Ube Cream (P1,550), and Faux Filler Lip Gloss in UUU-Baby (P1,400).

On Instagram, Kristina Rodulfo, a former Filipino beauty editor whose articles were published on Elle, Women’s Health, and Pop Sugar, put the Huda Beauty’s Blush Filter in Ube Cream to the test to see if it works well for Morenas, a skin tone common among Filipinos.

“Purple blush does look really good on medium to deeper skin tones,” Kristina said in the video, adding that the product complements her Filipina skin tone.

Huda Beauty is available in the Philippines through Sephora.
