UWEC professor that flipped over College Republicans table suspended for 1 academic year

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire professor that flipped over a UWEC College Republicans table is suspended for one academic year.

WEAU obtained a letter that Professor José Felipe Alvergue sent to the UW-Eau Claire community. A spokesperson with the university shared the letter with WEAU.

The letter from Alvergue says he will be serving a one-year suspension for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Below is a statement from Mark Pitsch, Director of Media Relations Universities of Wisconsin:

According to the Chair of the UWEC College Republicans, Alvergue flipped over their table on April 1, 2025, while walking past it.

At that time, the table was set up outside on campus in support of Supreme Court Justice Nominee Brad Schimel.

The student group said the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. They say Alvergue came up to their table and asked what they were doing there so close to the polls before tipping it over.
