The stage is set for the Yenze Hip-Hop Culture Fest, a groundbreaking celebration of Uganda’s hip-hop scene.

Scheduled for June 28, 2025, at Lugogo Cricket Oval, the festival aims to bridge generations of artistes and fans.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday at Sheraton Hotel, Geoffrey Jeff Ekongot, expressed his excitement about the event.

“Hip-hop has come of age,” Ekongot said.

“It has shaped so many minds, including the older folks like myself and the current generation.

This festival is about reigniting the spirit of hip-hop, tracing its journey, and envisioning the future.”

The festival promises to highlight all five elements of hip-hop: rap, breakdancing, DJing, fashion, and graffiti. Ekongot emphasized that hip-hop is more than just music; “It’s culture, identity, and a thriving economy.”

Joining him at the press conference were Lagum the Rapper and King Honey, two artists representing the new generation of Ugandan hip-hop.

Lagum the Rapper, an emerging star, reflected on his journey into hip-hop and the influence of Ugandan artistes like Navio, Ruyonga, Tucker HD, and Keko.

“Hip-hop in Uganda has a strong sense of community. This festival is not just about performances, it’s about discovering and inspiring new talent,” he said.

The festival will feature freestyle battles, fashion showcases and networking opportunities for artists, DJs and designers. King Honey, known for her bold fashion sense, encouraged designers to participate.

“Hip-hop is also fashion. This is our chance to support each other and grow together,” she said.

Ekongot also highlighted how Ugandan hip-hop has gained international recognition.

“Artists like Xenson Senkaaba have had their graffiti displayed in France. Breakdancers from Uganda have been featured on global platforms. We took hip-hop to the State House, and we even had the first President to rap in the world,” he noted.
