Texas man arrested after high-speed chase across Hill Country on rims of truck
A pursuit that spanned across county lines came to a screeching halt when the suspect hit a DPS trooper after being spiked in San Antonio.
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man accused of leading them on a high-speed chase that spanned across county lines.
Around 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to the 5300 block of FM 541 after receiving reports of a possible theft on a property in southern Atascosa County.
Officials say this particular property has been the location of many burglaries in the past.
After searching the property, deputies were able to identify the suspect as Roman Gomez and said he attempted to leave the property by “driving through the fence with a pickup truck with a trailer.”
Atascosa County deputies rushed to their vehicles and initiated a pursuit down FM 541 then north on Interstate 37 towards Pleasanton.
Another responding deputy was able to spike Gomez’s vehicle, flattening one of the tires. Then Texas DPS units assisting in the chase were able to spike and deflate more tires on Highway 281, but they say Gomez continued to flee north, driving on the rims of the truck.
Police in Pleasanton and San Antonio say they spiked Gomez’s truck two more times before a DPS trooper allegedly used his vehicle to terminate the pursuit and arrest Gomez after a short pursuit on foot.
Gomez was booked into the Atascosa County Jail and is facing the following charges:
- Evading arrest in a motor vehicle
- Evading arrest on foot
- Burglary of a building
- Criminal mischief
- Gomez allegedly also had an active arrest warrant out of Bexar County for possession of a controlled substance
Authorities said additional charges are pending for offenses committed in Bexar County and additional charges may be filed in Atascosa County following a complete investigation into this case.
