Baltimore County libraries now offering free naloxone at all locations

Baltimore County Public Libraries have begun distributing naloxone at all of their branch locations, according to a post shared on the library system’s social media pages on Wednesday.

Naloxone, commonly sold as Narcan, is a medication that reverses the effects of opioid overdoses.

In its announcement, the library system shared that this initiative is part of a wider partnership with the Baltimore County Department of Health and Human Services to “prevent opioid overdoses.” It will consist of receptacles located at each of the library’s branches where people can access naloxone when in need.

According to an overdose dashboard maintained by the Maryland Department of Health, Baltimore County has recorded decreases in overdose-related deaths each year since 2020. The county saw a significant decrease of nearly 25% in 2024.
