The Brunswick County Democratic Party recently completed a Thanksgiving Food Drive, providing relief for residents in a time of shortage and uncertainty.
As much as 2,000 pounds of non-perishable items collected by BCDP volunteers during the two-day drive will be donated to the Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church, which operates a food bank in Sunset Beach. The second day of collection, also for the benefit of Pleasant View, was scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, at BCDP Headquarters, located 1420 Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia.
The Democratic Party’s precinct officers, located throughout Brunswick County, organized volunteers who solicited residents in their neighborhoods for contributions. The contributions were delivered to precinct collection sites and transported to BCDP Headquarters in Bolivia. There, it’s being weighed and prepared for delivery to Pleasant View by the BCDP’s Good Works Team.
“The disastrous federal government shutdown is over, but the needs of county residents facing economic uncertainty continue,” said Shelley Allen, BCDP chair. “With our volunteers and presence throughout Brunswick County, we’re able to collect much-needed relief items for the needy in our community, and we’ll continue to do so.”
