DIY’ers Thrift Haul Quickly Goes So Viral and We Totally Get Why

Finding gems at the thrift store can be so satisfying. But, in a sea of thrift finds, how can you tell what will work for your space?

If you’ve ever wondered this, then you’re in luck. Because, recently, we learned a few of the keys to a successful thrift store shopping spree. And one of the most important points is to imagine what a find could be versus what an item is.

And it’s really true.

While you can find a thrift gem already in priceless condition, the art of thrifting can require looking at an object intended for a single purpose and imagine how it can be used differently. Or, how an item might look flipped or with a makeover.

That’s why, when a thrifter is able to curate, revamp or design finds in the most stylish ways, it never fails to impress us.

And clearly, we aren’t alone in that! As one DIYs and thrifting TikToker, The Flipped Piece, posted a video of “what I [she] thrifted vs. what I [she] did with it,” that went absolutely viral.

“This is a fun week,” she gushes about the finds. Watch this thrift store haul that got nearly 3.5 million views.

First, a $3.99 butter bell. With its crisp blue and white, this find totally fits the Nancy Meyers aesthetic.

“I got a $3.99 butter bell,” she explains “because everybody needs a flipping butter bell.” It fits in so nicely on her counter!

Next, a $3.99 handmade wooden chess board that is a straight-up thrift score. With checkered trays selling out at HomeGoods and thrifters styling chess boards into the most aesthetic decor, this is a downright great find.

Paired with the $6.99 iron candlestick holders, the decor looks so classic. The Flipped Piece thinks the candlestick holders are originally from Pottery Barn, making that $6.99 even more of a high-end steal than it already was!

Next up, that $7.99 milkglass candy dish (that users clarify is actually a vintage cake box) is another bargain. It ends up looking so minimalistic and chic. Obsessed is an understatement.

The final piece is a thrift transformation of a vintage bamboo lamp/magazine tray. Covered in dust at the store, The Flipped Piece is able to make it look brand-new with retro glam.

We can see why this TikTok went completely viral. These were all so budget-friendly, while still looking amazing. A thrift win if we ever saw one!
