Reposting a conservative commentator’s claim that “not one person on the planet actually thinks that Lupita Nyong’o is ‘the most beautiful woman in the world’,” Musk simply wrote “True” on X, amplifying criticism that the director was capitulating to political pressure.
In a separate exchange, Musk responded to a user asking why filmmakers “race swap white characters” by alleging of Nolan that “he wants the awards,” suggesting the casting was driven by diversity rules for major honours. Earlier this year, he had already accused Nolan of having “lost his integrity” and called the idea of Nyong’o as Helen “an insult” to Homer’s description of the character.

Fellow panellist Sunny Hostin added that people insisting Helen could not possibly be Black “don’t know history”, pointing to the long, contested record of how the ancient Mediterranean is represented.
