DeKalb, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team earned a season-high score of 193.450 during the Huskies Annual Beauty & The Beast Meet inside the Convocation Center on Friday night.
“Our confidence is building and we continue to hit more and more. I love the team vibe and our confidence continues to build,” Teague said. “We just need to clean up the form more and continue to improve.”
Kiera O’Shea (Norridge, Ill./Ridgewood) led the Huskies on the night and earned the win on vault with a 9.825. That marked the fourth straight meet for NIU that O’Shea has won on the vault.
“I am super proud of Kiera,” Teague said. “She has been training very hard and her hard work has continued to pay off,” interim head coach Nita Teague said.”
Kent State took the overall win in the meet 195.200-193.450.
1,177 fans came out to watch the Beauty & The Beast Meet.
“It was super fun tonight,” Teague said. “Almost 1,200 people came out here so that was great. The fans brought a great energy and it was super fun to be here.”
With O’Shea winning the event, Dawsyn Sallee (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) and Audrey Brenner (Fon du Lac, Wis./Fon du Lac) added scores of 9.750 and tied for third place in the meet. Samantha Nickle (Yorktown, Va./York) scored a 9.725 and Drake White (Indianapolis, ind./Bishop Chatard) scored a 9.700 as NIU posted a 48.725 on the opening event.
Katie Ferguson (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington) anchored the Huskies on bars and led the way with a 9.675. White and Isabella Sissi (Blaine, Minn./Mounds View) both earned scores of 9.650. NIU’s score of 48.000 is the second highest total the Huskies have posted this season on bars.
Dawsyn Sallee and Isabella Ross (Cary, N.C./Green Level) led the Huskies on beam as they each scored a 9.650. NIU scored a 47.775 on the event.
Ross and White both scored 9.800 on floor which tied them for fourth in the meet. Alana Anderson, Sallee and O’Shea all scored a 9.775 on floor. NIU posted a 48.925 to close out the meet on floor,
The Huskies are back in action next Friday, Feb. 14 as NIU travels to Cape Girardeau, MO. for a tri-meet against SEMO and Centenary College. That meet is set for a 6:30 p.m. start.
