MARSHFIELD − The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Marshfield-area residents to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 4 at Wenzel Family Plaza, 201 S. Chestnut Ave. in Marshfield.
The event will open at 9 a.m., with the opening ceremony beginning at 10:10 a.m., followed by the walk at 10:30 a.m., according to a community announcement.
DJ Ben Holberg of Lifeline Events will provide music throughout the event, and Mayor Lois Testrake will perform the national anthem. The walk also features the Promise Garden Ceremony, where participants carry colorful flowers, each representing a personal connection to the disease.
More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s
Jenni Yetter, of Nelson-Jameson, and Karen Ostreich, service admissions coordinator at Northshore Three Oaks & Marshfield Health, are serving as walk chairs.
“I’ve seen Alzheimer’s and dementia affect many of my friends’ and coworkers’ families. They’ve told me how challenging it can be to be a caregiver. I walk to help raise funds and awareness and to hopefully someday find a cure. I celebrate the advancements already made and the victories right around the corner. I walk to support others I care about,” Yetter said in the release.
More than 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, one of the nation’s leading causes of death. Over 11 million family members and friends provide unpaid care for those affected. In Wisconsin, more than 110,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s, and tens of thousands of caregivers are supporting them every day. In Wood County alone, over 2,154 residents age 65 and older are living with dementia.
Bill Schroeder is the honorary statewide chair
This year, the Alzheimer’s Association is welcoming Bill Schroeder, former Milwaukee Brewers player and longtime television color commentator, as the honorary statewide chair for all 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Wisconsin.
