My essential summer beauty picks

This time of year, I spend a lot of time at my family’s place in Sag Harbor, out on Long Island. We’ve had this house for 25 years now, and it is neither big nor fancy—and is beginning to show its (rather advanced) age. But we’ve got the prettiest backyard, and there is enough room for all of us to be out here at the same time, which is great. I’m pretty close to my siblings and their families, and I would credit this house, and all the summers we’ve spent out here, for making that so.

Because I spend a good chunk of the summer out here, I acquire dupes of all my key beauty products so I don’t have to keep lugging them back and forth from the city. The most recent item to achieve this status is my Portrait of a Lady hand cream. Portrait of a Lady is my scent of choice, and usually I use their hair and body oil, because it’s less fume-y than straight-up perfume. But in the summer, even *that* feels too heavy. This hand cream is the solution: it absorbs in an absolute jiff, and has a pleasingly light scent.

This Iles Formula finishing serum isn’t cheap, but a little bit goes quite a long way, and it believe me when I tell you that it reduces frizz like no other product I’ve tried.

This root touch-up powder gets the job done well, and typically allows me to delay going to the salon by a week or two.

A detangling brush like this is essential for doing battle with my gnarly hair.

Bioderma’s micellar water removes makeup, and does it pretty gently (this is the sensitive skin formulation).

Once a week, just to make sure I’ve *really* cleaned my skin, I go for this gentle but effective Ursa Major exfoliant.

If I’m exposing them, I like my legs to not be their naturally pale shade, so I’ve been known to employ these self-tanning towelettes, which I find to be the most mistake-proof form of self-tanner available (I know that many of you disagree, but there you have it). These are apparently pretty good too, and cheaper.

My medicine cabinet out here is a bit of a mascara purgatory—ones that I liked OK but that didn’t knock me out often find their way here to live out their days. But I can’t for the life of me figure out what I thought was so meh about this one—it lengthens like nobody’s business, and is well-priced too.

Ever since I reached my current unwanted-stubborn-facial-hair phase of life, I won’t go far without this handy device, which gets rid of the problem in a flash.

This Jones Road lip and cheek tint, in Tawny Nude, provides the best, barely-there flush.

I’ve shouted out this tinted sunscreen a million times, but I truly am devoted to it. This time of year, it also doubles as my foundation.

And finally, take it from a committed cannabis enthusiast when I say that I have tried all available eyedrops—even the fancy French blue ones—and these are the absolute best, hands down.
