Scrapped Plans For WWE SummerSlam 2024

A new report reveals another city wanted to host SummerSlam 2024.

Back in October of 2023, Fightful Select reported that the next edition of SummerSlam was expected to take place in Cleveland, Ohio. WWE confirmed this location in March via an announcement from current United States Champion and Cleveland native Logan Paul, who confirmed the Cleveland Browns Stadium as the venue for the Biggest Party of the Summer.

This marks the first time the event will take place in Cleveland since 1996, when it emanated from the Gund Arena. The main event of that show saw Shawn Michaels emerge victorious over Vader in a bout for the WWF Championship.

However, according to a new report, another Ohio location wanted to be in the running to host the iconic event. During a Hamilton County Board of Commissioners meeting on April 23rd, it was revealed that Cincinnati Bengals home Paycor Stadium submitted a pitch to host SummerSlam in 2024, but WWE did not respond to the offer. Ben Baby on Twitter writes:

Hamilton County Administrator Jeff Alutto said the Bengals made an effort for Paycor Stadium to host WWE SummerSlam, which ended up going to Cleveland instead. Alutto: “They did reach out several times. They said they didn’t call back.”

What Happened At SummerSlam 2023?

The 2023 edition of SummerSlam took place at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The main event of the show saw Roman Reigns successfully defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Jey Uso after Jey’s brother Jimmy Uso shockingly turned on him and helped Reigns secure the victory.
