This is presumably the same video game that Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment were rumored to be working on over the last couple of years, which was also said to be a turn-based strategy game.
Bit Reactor is comprised of developers who worked on the X-COM games, as well as Marvel’s Midnight Suns and Gears of War Tactics, so we can already imagine what the gameplay will be like. Levels will be laid out almost like a board game, with each member of Zero Company able to move and attack over a set amount of spaces each turn. The X-COM games were widely popular, and while Midnight Suns sold poorly it was reviewed very well, so we can likely expect good things from Zero Company.
As for the story, we don’t know much beyond the clues offered by the key art. Zero Company appears to be some kind of squad comprised of six members: a humanoid sniper wearing an armored suit, a Tognath Jedi wielding a green lightsaber, a dark-haired man clad in street clothes who appears to be the leader, a clone trooper, an astromech droid and a Mandalorian.
It appears that the game will take place during the Clone Wars, which makes sense for a strategy game. While the existence of the clone trooper might not rule out the early days of the Empire on its own, we can see the human in the middle is looking at a hologram of a B1 Battle Droid, which heavily suggests this takes place during that war.
We’ll learn more about Star Wars Zero Company on Saturday, April 19 during the Bit Reactor Developer Panel on the Galaxy Stage at 4:30PM local time — that’s 0:30AM PST, 3:30AM ET and 8:30AM BST. If you plan to keeping up with the panel live from North America or Europe, best stay up late or get up early! We’ll be covering in more detail as soon as we can.
