“President Trump is trying to silence me, threatening to kill me for saying what is true” Arizona Senator Mark Kelly on Monday (December 1) said death threats against him had increased as he renewed his critique of President Trump amid threats by the White House to recall Kelly to active Navy duty to prosecute him under military law for urging troops to disobey illegal orders. Kelly and five other Democratic lawmakers with military or intelligence backgrounds posted videos about disobeying illegal orders that Trump called “dangerous” and “seditious.” The FBI and the Department of Defense are investigating. Some legal experts are raising questions about the Pentagon’s investigation of Kelly, saying the Pentagon is misreading military law to go after Kelly as a retired Navy fighter pilot. Others say Kelly can’t be prosecuted as a member of Congress. Shortly after the controversial video went viral, Trump accused Kelly and the five other Democratic lawmakers in the video of sedition “punishable by DEATH.”
