Those signs of spring we once had to try our hardest to catch even a tiny glimpse of are finally back for the season, and eager gardeners have wasted no time getting back into their favorite pastime with them. For some, that return of spring sunshine and blue skies has inspired seriously creative ideas. Like for one DIYer, who decided to take something old and turn it into a useful new garden creation.
As many shop for spring planters and garden essentials, DIYer Mia Corippo (@Mia Corippo) shows you don’t have to spend to add something new to your yard. Instead, she highlights the fact that there is plenty of potential in unused, often overlooked pieces by transforming an old bathtub into a raised garden bed.
Unexpected? Definitely, but the result is such an eye-catching and genius way to garden.
“You don’t need a special garden planter,” Corippo writes in the caption of her Instagram post, “just a tub from the neighbors.”
It’s an idea that’s straightforward and simple, but feels downright brilliant at the same time. Plus, in a year where character-filled, creative touches have been on the rise, it’s a natural way to bring that one-of-a-kind, vintage charm into the yard too.

In her video, Corippo turns the old empty bathtub into a flower tub by cleaning it, filling it with potting soil and planting flowers in it. She explains that she positions the tub at a slight slant to help with healthy drainage. By the end, her flowers look gorgeous and whimsical on full display.
Bathtubs already have a drain installed too, Corippo says, so it makes it even more of an easy garden bed idea. And, it puts something sitting around to good use in a unique way.
With its effortless character and function, there are endless reasons to love this idea, so, it’s no surprise Instagram users in Corippo’s comments couldn’t get enough of it.
“This is my dream,” one user said. “Oh this is so magical!!” another commented, adding, “I’m obsessed.”
If you don’t have one or happen to know anyone getting rid of an old tub, Corippo suggests browsing through Facebook Marketplace. Once you do track one down, you’ll have a perfect planter on hand in more ways than one.
