Tony Schiavone Names The One Problem About Vince McMahon As An Announcer: “I Didn’t Like It”

Tony Schiavone, current AEW commentator and veteran wrestling announcer, recently offered high praise for Vince McMahon’s announcing skills during a review of a 1997 episode of WWE Monday Night Raw on his “What Happened When” podcast.

Schiavone, known for his extensive experience in professional wrestling commentary, expressed his admiration for McMahon’s work behind the microphone.

I always thought Vince was one of the best announcers during the business during his run.

The AEW commentator went on to compare McMahon’s partnership with Jesse “The Body” Ventura to other legendary duos in the industry.

I go back and when you think of great commentary teams, to me Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura were one of the best commentary teams ever. Just like Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan or Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross.

Schiavone attributed much of McMahon’s success to his unique position as the company’s owner emphasising how McMahon’s knowledge of the direction of the product enhanced his commentary skills..

And realistically it’s Vince’s company and so he knew what to say, he knew how to promote things. I thought he was great in this era.

However, Schiavone did point out one aspect of the physical presence of Vince McMahon that he felt was less than ideal for an announcer.

The only thing I didn’t like is that he’s so tall and the idea is your announcer needs to be smaller than the talent. But he was smart. He would make sure that he wasn’t in there with guys that he would dwarf over.

Tony Schiavone’s comments offer a unique perspective on McMahon’s lesser-discussed role as a commentator, providing insight into the skills that helped shape WWE’s presentation during a pivotal era in professional wrestling.

Tony Schiavone Says Won’t Be Watching Vince McMahon Netflix Series
