Route 90 Bridge in Town of Montezuma Temporarily Closing for Work on Bridge
Signed Detour in Place for Motorists to Use During Construction
The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the NYS Route 90 bridge over the Thruway (I-90), located between exit 40 (Weedsport – Auburn – NY Route 34) and exit 41 (Waterloo – Clyde – NY Route 414) at milepost 312.16 in the Town of Montezuma, will temporarily close to traffic to allow the contractor to perform necessary work on the bridge. Approximately 2,600 motorists travel the bridge daily.
The bridge is scheduled to temporarily close on Wednesday, March 4 for approximately three weeks. During the closure, an 11-mile signed detour will be in place. Motorists seeking to access Route 90 south of the Thruway (I-90) should use Route 31 westbound to Route 89 southbound, to Route 20 eastbound, to connect with Route 90.
Slate Hill Constructors, Inc. of Warners, NY is the project contractor. All work is weather dependent and subject to change. Variable Message Signs (VMS) are lit in the area to alert drivers of the temporary bridge closure.
Motorists may encounter lane closures on the Thruway in this area during construction. Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
The lives of Thruway Authority employees, roadway workers and emergency personnel depend on all of those who travel the highway. Motorists should stay alert and pay attention while driving, slow down in work zones and move over when they see a vehicle on the side of the road. The State’s Move Over Law, which was expanded in March 2024, requires drivers to slow down and move over for all vehicles stopped along the roadway. Safety is a shared responsibility.
For up-to-date travel information, motorists are encouraged to download the Thruway Authority’s mobile app which is available to download for free on iPhone and Android devices. The app provides motorists direct access to real-time traffic and navigation assistance while on the go. Travelers can also visit the Thruway Authority’s interactive Traveler Map which features live traffic cameras. Motorists can also sign up for TRANSalert e-mails, which provide the latest traffic conditions along the Thruway.
