WWE Hall of Famer claims Tony Khan lacks knowledge about wrestling

Tony Khan started AEW back in 2019 as a competition to the WWE, and ever since its inception, a lot of WWE stars have made their way to the promotion and have found success there. However, according to WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff, AEW boss Tony Khan does not understand anything about professional wrestling at all.
While speaking on the podcast “83 Weeks” Eric Bischoff drew comparisons between his journey in the world of professional wrestling and that of Tony Khan.

Eric Bischoff doesn’t hold back while talking about Tony Khan and AEW

While on the podcast, Bischoff said, “I was a wrestling fan who eventually went on to become an executive in the wrestling business, Tony’s a wrestling fan who bought his way into the wrestling business. Tony bought his way in, and there’s nothing wrong with that, if I had a rich dad I would have bought my way in too.”
He further added, “When I say Tony doesn’t know what he needs to know about producing wrestling, it’s not because I’m an old man screaming at the clouds, it’s because it’s a fact. He doesn’t know what he doesn’t know.”

At this point, its safe to say that whatever his methods may be with the company, it’s clearly different from the strategies employed by WWE or even Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman, when they were running WCW and ECW respectively. So far, the company has done wonders and has worked well as a competitor to the WWE.

Although it’s still new in the field, and has a long way to go, it would be wrong to say that it doesn’t put up some amazing shows every now and then. So it’ll be interesting to see how the company fares in the upcoming days. AEW has a lot of popular stars, and has a lot of star power. While it may not be enough to directly rival what the WWE has, it comes close and can often challenge the Stamford-based promotion in terms of viewership quite often.
While the claims made by Eric Bischoff have some weight because of how experienced he is when it comes to professional wrestling management, it’ll be worth seeing if AEW continues to flourish under Tony Khan’s leadership.
