18-year-old and his teen sister dead after vehicle hydroplaned into oncoming traffic, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN/Gray News) – A crash report revealed new details about Monday’s two-vehicle collision that killed two siblings in Nebraska.

Police and emergency responders from Lincoln were dispatched to the crash just before 1:30 p.m. on Antelope Valley Parkway near the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

According to the crash investigation report, 18-year-old Karwan Breem, of Lincoln, was driving a red Cadillac northbound on Antelope Valley Parkway when he changed lanes and sped past two vehicles.

Police said the Cadillac hydroplaned on the wet road, hit the curb, lost control and then slid into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a blue Nissan pickup driven by a 19-year-old Oklahoma man.

Karwan and his 15-year-old sister, Karolin Breem, who was riding in the Cadillac at the time of the crash, were transported to a hospital. They later died from their injuries, according to the crash report.

The driver of the pickup was also taken to the hospital, but with non-life-threatening injuries.

Karwan and Karolin were both students at North Star High School. Karwan was expected to graduate this week from summer school. Karolin had completed summer classes and was set to begin her sophomore year in the fall.

Counselors, social workers and psychologists were at North Star High School on Tuesday to support students.

A memorial was set up in the school’s counseling center. After it is removed, the items will be given to the family.

The parents of the siblings have set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses after their deaths.

The investigation is ongoing.
