39 Days of War, War Crime Threats, Stewart and Fazio: No Comment
Six weeks into a war of personal choice with Iran, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to announce that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” This was an escalation from comments he made two days earlier announcing that he would order the destruction of Iran’s bridges and power plants on April 7th.
Trump has made increasingly erratic statements throughout the war, contradicting himself and issuing open threats to illegally target civilian infrastructure. Now he is using social media to promise flagrant war crimes.
This war is a national security crisis, an economic disaster, and a moral catastrophe. Trump’s conduct has cost our country billions in military spending, destroyed our standing in the international community, and taken the lives of 15 American service members, along with civilians throughout the region.
For 39 days, Ryan Fazio and Erin Stewart have said nothing. Not a single comment on the war. Not a word at a town hall about the President or the direction of their party.
A commanding majority of Americans oppose Trump’s actions. Democrats at every level of government have condemned his behavior, and even MAGA diehards like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tucker Carlson have questioned his fitness for office and called for the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment.
The Connecticut GOP has been SILENT since celebrating the start of the strikes on Iran in February. The third GOP candidate, Betsy McCaughey, has gone further, openly declaring her support for Trump and the war in Iran.
“The bar has never been lower,” said CT Dems spokesperson Ian Clarke. “When Marjorie Taylor Green and Tucker Carlson are exhibiting more moderation and political independence than Connecticut Republicans, you know something has gone deeply wrong in that party. There is truly nothing that Erin Stewart or Ryan Fazio will not sacrifice to court Trump’s endorsement.”
