600 Allina Health medical personnel vote to strike
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS is tracking potential health care impacts after Allina Health doctors announced they will strike.
A spokesperson from Allina Health told KSTP that it will be a one-day strike on Nov. 5.
It will affect 60 clinics in Minnesota and one in Wisconsin.
The union representing the workers says 90% of its members voted to go on strike.
The union and Allina Health have been negotiating since February of last year, with union members requesting better sick leave and safety measures.
In a new statement, Allina Health says it’s “prepared to continue providing safe care to meet the needs of our communities” during the one-day strike.
It also said that the union’s requests for “significant compensation increases and extreme benefits proposals are simply not realistic or sustainable,” citing rising health care insurance costs, anticipated reductions in reimbursements and programs such as Medicaid and other financial challenges for health care providers.
