With Election Day nearing, South Carolina’s two Republican gubernatorial candidates are making final campaign stops in the Lowcountry, each working to rally voters as the race heads into its closing days — and as President Donald Trump’s endorsements have shifted the dynamics of the contest.
Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and Attorney General Alan Wilson have both been holding events in the region as they seek last-minute support ahead of Tuesday’s vote.
“I know exactly what the state needs to move forward and how to get it done,” Evette said.
Wilson, meanwhile, framed the race as one that must be decided by voters, not party leaders.
“In South Carolina, we don't do coronations, we don't do anointments. You have to earn the vote,” Wilson said.

During the primary election, Evette earned Trump’s endorsement and went on to receive the most votes in the Republican field. This week, Trump also endorsed Wilson for governor.
The endorsement reflects growing strength in his campaign, Wilson added. “To have him recognize the strength and energy that is happening in our campaign right now is the momentum starts to build up in its final days of the campaign. I'm grateful to have received the president's endorsement."
Evette said she was not shaken by Trump’s decision to also back Wilson.
“When there was a crowded field, the president chose me. I won it for him on the 9th, I won it for him again on the 23rd,” Evette said.
Both campaigns are now focused on turning out voters on Tuesday. “It's a tight race. So I hope all my people get out and vote,” Evette said. She also reminded voters that “polls open from 7 to 7.”
The outcome, Wilson said, will be clear once voting ends. “On Tuesday, at seven o'clock when the polls close, we're gonna have the judgment of the people of South Carolina."
