Has former WWE superstar Dijak joined an Indie Wrestling company? | WWE News

NEW DELHI: Christopher James Dijak began his wrestling career in 2013 and trained for Chaotic Wrestling. In 2017, he signed a contract with WWE assigning him to NXT with the ring name of Dominik Dijakovic. His career grew henceforth and he found himself drafted to SmackDown at the WWE Draft in 2021.
He was also drafted to WWE Raw during the 2024 WWE Draft in April. However, that contract has expired as of June 28, 2024. An announcement was made on June 27 that the contract shall not be renewed leaving Dijak a free agent.
Donovan Dijak will debut at Roseland 9

Following the news of Dijak’s contract expiration with WWE, Prestige Wrestling acted swiftly to bring Dijak on board. They officially announced on X (former Twitter) that Dijak is all set to return to the indie scene for the Roseland 9 event in Portland, Oregon. Ever since the announcement on June 29, 2024, Dijak has taken up his former name Donovan Dijak.
The Roseland 9 event in Portland is scheduled for September 29, 2024, at the Roseland Theater. It is being presented by Prestige Wrestling, Deadlock Pro Wrestling, and West Coast Pro. The partnership of these three companies will ensure the fans get the best in independent wrestling.
Their endeavor is all set to make the limelight on July 20 with the Untouchable event. The event will feature NJPW star Robbie Eagles, WWE star Shelton Benjamin, and former AEW performer Alan Angels.
Why did Dijak leave WWE?
Dijak had a strong performance at NXT from November 2022 till April 2024. However, after getting signed into the main roster of RAW in 2024, his performance did not meet expectations. And with the expiration of his contract nearing, he had earlier hinted that the contract might not be renewed. And rightly so, he confirmed that June 28 will be his last day with WWE and he will become a free agent.
Being a free agent, Dijak is now free to explore his other options and appear anywhere he wants. This is because he has a 90-day non-compete clause attached to him. While his appearance in the Roseland 9 event is confirmed, he might still be looking for other opportunities and end up showing up publicly much sooner.

Following the news of Dijak’s departure from WWE, the fans showered in tons of support and kind words for him as he entered the indie wrestling scene. Dijak took to X to express his appreciation for the support he received from his fans. Here’s what he said:
Thanks so much for all the kind words & gestures today. You made me feel valued & respected at a time when I really needed it.”
Dijak has been going through a difficult time as the news of his contract non-renewal came at the eleventh hour. It was unexpected as he has been receiving praise from the top executives of the company for his performance at NXT Stand and Deliver in April. Nevertheless, Donovan Dijak is now looking forward to continuing his wrestling career with other companies with continued support from his fans.
