LOS ANGELES – UConn men’s basketball redshirt senior captain Alex Karaban has been named to the 2025-26 John R. Wooden Award Men’s Midseason Top 25 Watch List, the Los Angeles Club announced on Wednesday (Jan. 7). Karaban is the lone BIG EAST representative on the list.
Selected by a midseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list comprises 25 student-athletes who are frontrunners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball: the Wooden Award All-American Team and the Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player.
Karaban is in the midst of a stellar final season in Storrs. The four-year starter is top-three on the Huskies in scoring (13.3 ppg), rebounding (5.5 rpg) and assists (2.3 apg) while starting all 15 games and leading the BIG EAST in minutes. He has posted a sterling 50.0/41.8/88.0 shooting line and added 2.1 ‘stocks’ per game, playing an integral role in UConn’s elite defense that ranks No. 3 in Kenpom defensive efficiency.
Climbing the ranks across the UConn record books, Karaban recently became the 21st player in program history to eclipse 1,500 career points and is tracking towards the all-time records for games, starts and 3-point field goals. He leads all high major players in games played at one school with 126 and is already fourth in UConn history with 125 career starts.
During Karaban’s time as a Husky, UConn has compiled a 106-23 overall record and a 13-1 mark in the NCAA Tournament.
