André 3000, born André Lauren Benjamin, is one-half of the groundbreaking hip-hop duo Outkast and one of the most versatile and enigmatic artists in the history of Black music. He shifted his focus to acting, appearing in films like *Four Brothers* and *Jimi: All Is by My Side*, where he portrayed guitar legend Jimi Hendrix. Still, his mystique only grew. Guest features on songs with Kanye West, Beyoncé, and Frank Ocean kept him in the cultural conversation.
In 2023, he surprised the world again with *New Blue Sun*, an ambient instrumental album with no rapping. Instead, he played flute. While some questioned the pivot, others saw it as a natural evolution for an artist never interested in doing what’s expected.
