Beavers In First Place Thru 36 Holes At Trysting Tree Golf Club

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s golf team jumped out to a four-stroke lead on its home course at the Molly Collegiate Invitational on Monday.
The Beavers carded an 8-over 290-294—584 in rainy and windy conditions at the par-72, 6,432-yard Trysting Tree Golf Club and sit in first place in the seven-team field with 18 holes to play.
The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start and live scoring is available at this link. Admission is free.
Senior Kyra Ly led Oregon State, and is in second place overall, after posting a 3-under 69-72—141. The 3-under 69 in the first round is her best score of her senior campaign and the 33rd round in red figures in her four-year Oregon State career.
Ly is only two strokes behind the clubhouse leader, Darae Chung of Oregon who carded a 5-under 139. A native of Portland, Ly will go for the third individual title in her collegiate career in Tuesday’s final round.
True freshman Kate Nakaoka, a native of Mililani, Hawai’i, bounced back from a 4-over 76 in the first round to fire a career-best and bogey-free 2-under 70 in the afternoon play and is tied for eight place with a 2-over 146. Her best score in the first tournament of the season was a 1-over 73 in the first and third rounds at the Leadership and Golf Invitational.
Raya Nakao and Kelly Hope are both tied for 19th place with a 5-over 149. Nakao, a junior from Kaneohe, Hawai’i, had a 1-under 71 in the first round and a 6-over 78 in the afternoon. Hope, a sophomore from Pretoria, South Africa, made her season debut and was steady with a 2-over 74 and 3-over 75.
Clara Alevag carded a pair of 5-over 77’s and is tied for 36th place heading into the final round.
The Beavers have two golfers competing as individuals – Rebecca Kim and Faith Tufono. Kim, a junior from South Surrey, B.C., is tied for 19th place with a 5-over 75-74—149. Tufono, a true freshman from San Antonio, Texas, was sensational in her collegiate debut with a 2-over 74-72—146 to put her in a tie for eighth place.
Tufono led the seven Oregon State golfers in the field with eight birdies in the two rounds, while Ly had seven and Nakao finished with six with five of them coming in the first round.
