The Winn-Dixie Store, located at 1535 N Singleton Ave, received a total of six violations during a recent food safety inspection by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, including two Priority violations that directly impact consumer safety. The inspection, conducted at the Brevard County, FL, popular grocery chain, on August 27, 2025, resulted in several stop-sale orders and calls for immediate corrective actions.

Douglas Husler and Michael Gray completed the inspection, and a re-inspection is required.

What Happened During The Inspection

State records showed that the inspectors cited the store for non-compliance related to hemp extract products, noting packages that were not child-resistant and some that featured labeling described as “attractive to children”, such as cartoon-shaped packaging—both of which are violations under state law.

Other notable issues included unsafe food holding temperatures and facility maintenance problems. Hot wings in the food service area were found at just 122°F, below the required 135°F, while cold-packed chicken registered at 43°F, exceeding the regulatory limit of 41°F.

These Priority violations, according to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, are considered high-risk for foodborne illness and prompted immediate intervention by management.

The inspection also flagged additional areas for attention, including the improper thawing of frozen ribs at room temperature and physical facility concerns like cracked floor tiles and missing ceiling tiles in the meat and produce areas.

According to the report, all affected goods under stop-sale orders—including commercial beverages containing hemp extract—must be withheld from sale or movement until state officials release them.

Management was advised to comply with state directives or risk administrative penalties, including fines or permit suspension. Store representatives received a checklist for corrective action and information on how to request hearings if they wish to contest the findings.

This Brevard County, FL, Winn-Dixie, located in the Dairy Plaza Shopping Center, has a 4.2-star rating based on 1,421 Google reviews. The grocery store is part of a popular chain that also features a pharmacy and liquor store.
