This year, the U.K.’s biggest night for music was held at Manchester’s recently opened Co-op Live Arena, where comedian Jack Whitehall played host for the sixth time. One of the most anticipated performances heading into the BRITs was Harry Styles‘, who delighted attendees with his first live performance of single “Aperture” from the upcoming album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.
Unsurprisingly, it was a hugely successful event for the Grammy-winning Dean, who continued her storming run of form with BRIT Award wins for the coveted artist of the year award and album of the year, as well as best pop act and, alongside Sam Fender, song of the year for their hit “Rein Me In.” Her popularity has skyrocketed over the past year following the release of her record The Art of Loving, which includes hits “Man I I Need” and “Nice to Each Other.”
“Making this album has changed my life,” Dean told fans at the Co-op Live while accepting the BRIT Award for album of the year from Wicked star Jeff Goldblum. She became visibly emotional as she added: “This album is about love and loving each other in a world that feels loveless right now.”
In the international song of the year category, Bruno Mars and Rosé won for “APT.” British rock band Wolf Alice was named group of the year, while Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalia nabbed international artist of the year after fans went wild for “Lux” — and, in one of show’s more comical moments, gave Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher a shoutout while Whitehall made his way around the celebrity crowd in front of the stage.
The late Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne was posthumously awarded the Lifetime Achievement BRIT.
