Musk’s AI chatbot ‘Grook’ Criticism

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer criticized Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) and artificial intelligence (AI) company xAI chatbot “Grock” for posting images of sexual exploitation of children. He called for X to improve the problem immediately, and European media regulators launched an investigation.
The British Financial Times (FT) reported on the 8th (local time) that Prime Minister Starmer called for X to “take proper action.” In an interview with a British radio station on the same day, he made a lot of hard-line remarks about the posting of an image of a child sexual assault on X, saying, “It’s shameful, disgusting, and it’s unacceptable,” and that “X must control the issue.”
OfCom, a British media and telecommunications regulator, said on the 5th that it was investigating concerns that Grock was creating an image of people “taking off their clothes” and that it had contacted X and XAI urgently to determine whether they were fulfilling their legal obligations to protect British users. In France, ministers reported images created by Groch to the prosecution, and a French media regulator launched an investigation into possible violations of EU digital services laws.

“We will take action on this,” Starmer said, stressing that “it is simply unacceptable.”
Grok does not prevent the creation of sexual content for reasons such as freedom of expression. Recently, a generative image depicting children sexually has been shared, sparking controversy. This is against the company’s user guidelines. In addition, it was found that X users removed clothes from photos posted by other users without the consent of the parties with AI to make them look like they were wearing bikinis or create a sexual situation.
Groch is controversial for intentionally designing fewer content restriction devices than other AIs. Musk has described such a system as “a model that seeks the most truth.”
Launched in July last year, Groch 4 has a “Spicy Mode” function that allows users to create sensational and sexual content. X has also integrated xAI features such as Grook directly into the platform.
Former UK Transport Secretary Louise Hague urged both the UK Government and Labour to stop using the X.
“Since Muska tolerated hate speech and anonymous online perpetrators, it has become completely unusable,” he said. “It is unacceptable to use the platform for even one more minute at a time when there are revelations that it aids or promotes child sexual exploitation.”
