DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Two people are in custody after a kidnapping report led to the discovery of a deceased juvenile over the weekend.
Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal spoke the media on Monday afternoon to provide new details into what they are calling a homicide investigation.
On Saturday, July 12 before 4 a.m., the Dayton Police Department received a kidnapping report out of Xenia Avenue in Dayton. A missing persons report was issued for 7-year-old Hershall Creachbaum, a non-verbal child with autism.
Afzal says investigation eventually led officers to discover Creachbaum had not been seen for several weeks and was believed to be dead.
Investigators discovered his remains in the area of US-35 and McClure Street on Saturday evening. Official identification from the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is still pending.

DPD has two people in custody in relation to this case — Creachbaum’s biological mother and her alleged boyfriend, who police say was the one who called 911 in the first place.
Both individuals are facing several charges, including tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.
Afzal says Child Services was called to take custody of Creachbaum’s sister.
This is an ongoing investigation. DPD will share updates as investigation continues.
