Centenary finished with eight hits, drew five walks, struck out just three times, made one error, and left five on base while Concordia had nine hits, walked twice, also struck out three times, and left seven on base.

Sophomore P/IF Treyson Martin (Huffman, Texas) picked up the win on the mound for Centenary as he pitched three scoreless innings in relief of senior RHP Jacob Broussard (Houston, Texas).

Martin (3-1) allowed just one hit with no BB and one K as he threw 38 pitches with 27 for strikes to the 10 batters he faced. Broussard worked the first six innings and allowed three runs, all earned, on eight hits with two BB and two K’s. He faced 27 batters, hitting one, and threw 90 pitches (55 strikes) and one wild pitch.

Rowdy Hoadley started for the Tornados and went six innings as he allowed two runs, both earned, and four hits with three BB and one K. He faced 24 batters and labored as he threw 111 pitches (66 strikes) and threw a wild pitch.

Gabe Guitterez (2-1) was tagged with the loss as he allowed three runs, all earned, and walked two while allowing one hit in his 0.2 innings of work. He faced five batters and threw 15 pitches – seven for strikes. Erich Glenewinkel also went 0.2 innings and allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out one of the five batters he faced. He threw 27 pitches (14 strikes). Jake Runnells got the final two outs of the eighth inning as the fourth and final pitcher of the night for the visitors.

The Tornados opened the scoring in the top of the second as SS Logan Smith singled home RF Landon Hyle to make it 1-0. The Diamond Gents answered right back in the bottom half of the inning as sophomore IF Noah Paulson (El Lago, Texas) scored on a wild pitch.

Concordia, though, scored a pair in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead on an RBI single by LF Hunter Smith and a bases-loaded BB by CF Kolten McDaniel. Three scoreless innings followed and then Centenary’s offense came alive in the bottom of the seventh.

Sophomore DH Aron Gillum (Shreveport, La.) drew a leadoff BB and Guitterez came in from the bullpen to relieve Hoadley. Gillum stole second base and freshman 3B Garritt Romero (Manvel, Texas) walked. Freshman LF Parker Seago (Orange, Texas) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third with one out. Senior C Caleb Ickes (Prairieville, La.) then grounded out to third and it looked as if the Tornados might escape the jam with the lead intact.

Sophomore CF Blaine Birkelbach (Pearland, Texas) had other ideas though as he delivered a clutch two-out, two-RBI single to tie the game at 3-3. Birkelbach then stole second and senior 3B Clay Menard (Berwick, La.) walked. Glenewinkel then came in to pitch for Guitterez and junior SS Vance Sartor (Prescott Valley, Ariz.) greeted him with a two-run double to left to give the Diamond Gents a 5-3 lead. Paulson then singled home Sartor to make it 6-3. Martin retired the side in order in the top of the eighth and ninth as he shut the door on an impressive comeback win.

Birkelbach finished 1-4 with two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base and Sartor went 1-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Romero went 2-2 with two BB and a run scored, Menard was 1-3 with a run and a BB, Paulson was 2-4 with an RBI, a run, and a stolen base, and Gillum went 1-2 with two BB, a run, and a SB.
