Duke’s McVeigh Headlines All-ACC Academic Team for Field Hockey

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke senior forward Alaina McVeigh was named the Atlantic Coast Conference 2025 Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year and leads the sport’s All-ACC Academic Team, the league announced on Wednesday.

McVeigh, a Political Science major, was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the third time in her career. A native of Landsale, Pennsylvania, McVeigh has also been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll three times and the Dean’s List with Distinction on three separate occasions. Additionally, she was previously the ACC Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year for field hockey in 2024.

Earlier this year, McVeigh earned First Team All-America and First Team All-ACC honors after leading the Blue Devils with 15 goals scored. She also ranked second among the Blue Devils with nine assists on the season, finishing with 39 total points, which ranked sixth in the ACC. This season, McVeigh became the 13th player in Duke history record 100 career points, and just the sixth individual in school history to record 20-plus points in each of her first three seasons.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0-grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team include a 3.0-grade point average for the previous two semesters and 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career, while being enrolled at the institution for at least one year and being classified as an undergraduate student. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s athletic contests.
