Father fractures 2-month-old child’s skull by throwing a video game hard drive, Auburn police say

Auburn, N.Y. – A two-month-old has a fractured skull after the baby’s father threw a video game hard drive that was aimed at the baby’s mother, city police said.

The infant also suffered a brain bleed, police said. The baby is at Upstate University Hospital, Auburn police said in a news release issued today.

Jason L. Brown, 33, faces five charges, including second-degree assault and criminal possession of a firearm. Police later found three illegal firearms while searching his home, they said.

On Tuesday, police responded to Auburn Community Hospital for a report of child abuse, officers said.

They discovered the child’s father had thrown the hard drive at his girlfriend, but hit their child who she was holding at the time, police said in the news release.

It’s unclear where the baby was injured. Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard has reached out to Auburn police for more information.

The child has since been moved to Upstate University Hospital to treat severe injuries, police said.

After learning Brown might possess illegal weapons, police search his home. They found a Taurus semi-automatic pistol with a loaded magazine and two AR-style rifles, police said.

Brown was arrested and charged with:

  • 2nd degree assault (felony)
  • 2nd degree attempted assault (felony)
  • Criminal possession of a firearm (felony)
  • 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon (misdemeanor)
  • Endangering the welfare of a child (misdemeanor)

Police say Brown could face further charges. He has been transported to the Cayuga County Jail for CAP arraignment.
