A Florida man accused of defrauding the Arizona Department of Education by applying for empowerment scholarship account money for made-up children has since been indicted on multiple felony counts, according to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
Adam Renae Jones was indicted on one count of theft and five counts of fraud after he filed for ESA funds multiple times between December 2022 and January 2024 and amassed between $4,000 and $25,000, the Attorney General’s Office said.
Jones resided in Florida and was arrested in Miami where he remained in custody, said AG spokesperson Richie Taylor. It was not immediately clear when he would be extradited to Arizona.
